On a sunny morning, three trustees were interviewed by Unitec landscape design students in a ‘speed dating’ session to inform their ideas for the Masterplan for Matuku Link. The questions got us thinking about the future use of our existing and possible future buildings, as well as ‘best views’ and ‘communicating with the community’. The groups had great questions and we can’t wait to see what they will come up with. As this project progresses, we’ll keep you posted on what fresh ideas these amazing young minds come up with.
We also hosted the architecture students from Unitec, to show them around the locations for a possible bird hide. Trustee John Sumich found the best location: “I have a site for a bird hide. It has lots of lovely issues to make students think – the site can be flooded; the bank edge is probably unstable and the morning light might make observers visible to any birds on the water”. That is a challenge if there ever was one! But we are certain they can come up with some good solutions. Another requirement is that younger children can also see out of it, something which seems to be lacking at other bird hides. Once built, it will be of much educational use for our visitors!
And for this to be designed and built as an educational project, kills two birds with one stone, though we’d rather kill the rats…
