Saturday 13th of February was another super successful World Wetland Open Day celebration, with 12 stalls, a full programme of Boardwalk opening and five guided tours, and just under 300 people enjoying it all on a sunny day. Our volunteers did an amazing job of cooking sausages & corn, bringing home baking, selling t-shirts, coffee, tea, juices and raffle tickets, directing the cars, setting up and packing down the gazebos, guided the walks, pointed out our pateke… what a great group of people I’m fortunate to work with every time!

The Open Day was just in time, because the third Auckland Lockdown kicked in on Sunday night after three Covid cases were discovered earlier that day. The rain came with the lockdown (two good reasons to finally do your admin and other chores today…) giving our thirsty plants some water.

Our talented voluntary photographer Stefan Marks took the pictures below, contact me at matukulink@gmail.com if you’d like him to send you a high-res version of any of them. He surely is a magician, he even managed to take a picture of me where I have my eyes open 😉

I can’t thank our volunteers and stall holders enough for their hard work on the day! Thank you and hope to see you next time, nga mih nui, Annalily
