Join local bat expert Tina for an evening of discovery as we head into the wetlands to learn about Pekapeka tou roa – New Zealand’s long-tailed bats.
We’ll begin with a short introduction to these fascinating nocturnal creatures, then set out at dusk to listen for their high-frequency calls using bat detectors. Along the way, Tina will share stories from her years of tracking bats throughout Waitākere, and New Zealand.
Pekapeka are classed as Nationally Critical. Tina will help us understand how we can protect these tiny taonga.
