Our 5th Anniversary

On the 6th of November 2016 four trustees signed the sales agreement and became the owners of 111 Bethells Road, soon to be called "Matuku Link".  Five  years later to the day, on Saturday 6th of November 2021 they are inviting all the people who helped to make Matuku...

OK Boomer!

The Matuku isn't our namesake for nothing, it is a very special bird. They are cryptic birds so we need to know more about them. Developing a database of boom onset may simply answer whether there is a regional difference in onset of booming but over time may also...

Henderson Valley School visit

Finally we were able to welcome the children from year 3 and 4 from our local Henderson Valley Primary school. Finally, because this trip has been planned two times before... both during last year's lockdowns! Luckily this time this year we could go ahead and have...

Why test wai?

Kimberley D'Souza from our friends at Whitebait Connection, who also have helped us installing the fish ladder, came for our first training session on water quality testing. Over the next couple of years we aim to do the testing every second month, at our Working Bee,...

Kiwi Conservation Club visit

We love to see groups returning to Matuku Link: they can admire the health of the trees they planted, check out the other things we've done and become part of our growing (excuse the pun) project. One of those groups is the Kiwi Conservation Club, Forest & Bird's...

Kauri and kereru

As written by Linda Ruthe: When Liz March (local photographer), needed to take photos of Kauri, she kindly invited me to go with her to Matuku Link. There, we dutifully disinfected our shoes and walked up a track to where Kauri grow amongst companions. I spent some...

Our nursery is overflowing with plants grown by all our volunteers and now we're getting into the wetter season, we're ready to do some planting!!! All our working bees are accessible for all ages, we can always find something appropriate for your age and fitness...

Drone survey

Thanks to the team at Auckland Zoo, we now have some great drone footage of the willows in the river and our wetland. This does not only guide us to where they are so we can get rid of them (as willows are a pest plant, a weed smothering our native plants and clogging...

Kayak Day 2021

What a great day we had on the water at our VIP Kayak Day!  Thanks to the hard work of our 15 volunteers, doing the sausage sizzle, baking cakes, making soup, instructing, driving and helping people in- and out of the kayaks, guiding them on the water and sharing our...

Just in time Open Day

Saturday 13th of February was another super successful World Wetland Open Day celebration, with 12 stalls, a full programme of Boardwalk opening and five guided tours, and just under 300 people enjoying it all on a sunny day. Our volunteers did an amazing job of...

Support our work

Hands-on volunteering

Our regular working bees are every Third Sunday of the month and every Tuesday morning. Depending on the weather, tasks will be around weeding, planting, growing plants in the nursery, doing predator control or building work. More info here.

Please contact Annalily on matukulink@gmail.com with questions, or if you’d like to join us and it’s your first time out to Matuku Link. We’d love to welcome you here!

Helping out in other ways

Nothing is possible without our valued funders, donors and supporters. Matuku Reserve Trust is a charitable trust so any donation over $5 is tax deductible. Please consider becoming a supporter, more info here.

Thank you to our many generous sponsors and individuals who have helped us with in-kind or financial contributions!
