Our nursery is overflowing with plants grown by all our volunteers and now we’re getting into the wetter season, we’re ready to do some planting!!! All our working bees are accessible for all ages, we can always find something appropriate for your age and fitness level – our youngest visiting volunteer was just 6 months old while our eldest volunteer is 92 and counting. That’s the benefit of our project: beingin a wetland it’s flat and with our nursery, there is always something to do without having to bend over.
With Covid still in the world, we’re just asking you to remember a couple of things:
- when you’re sick, stay home and take care of yourself (always a good idea, you’ll get better quicker!)
- no need to bring your own gloves or spades , but if you do: everything needs to be squeaky clean because of the risk of spreading kauri dieback.
- fill in our H&S and tracing form before you come. Click here for the link. Contact me if you have any issues with the form.
The upcoming working bee dates are:
- Sunday 16th May
- Sunday 20th of June
- Sunday 18th of July
- Sunday 15th of August
- Sunday 19th of September
Start time 10 am, finishing with an optional shared lunch at 1 pm. We’ll provide hot drinks and homemade soups and bread. If you can contribute something, that’s great. It’s winter time – even if the dams are low, the water level is high in the wetland, so it’s gum boot time. Make sure they are clean before you come please (kauri dieback!).
Ample parking on site, we’re at 111 Bethells Road – entry opposite the Waitakere River Fire station. Please contact me if you’re planning to come with a bigger group so we know how many cups to place our our table: Annalily at matukulink@gmail.com or 0212207136.
Hope to see you there! – Annalily & the trustees
