What a great World Wetland Day celebration we had! Thanks to all the volunteers all our visitors experienced the project with guided walks by John Staniland or John Sumich, eel feeding and info by Derek March, who also made the beautiful sculpture. We had lovely home baking by many great cooks, Liz, Holly, Lisa, Corrie, Chad and many others, with locally picked plums, honey from neighbour Sue Beesley and coffee from neighbours Peter and Petroeska from Bethells Beanz. Sausages were barbecued to perfection by Eric and Liz, payments were expertly handled by Shaz and parking by Thomas. Frazer and Stefan were our our roaming volunteers, Anko looked after registration and everyone helped each other. Our friends Steph and Kimberly from The Whitebait Connection gave information on water quality and the inhabitants of our streams, and Robert and Chris from Forest & Bird Waitakere answered question about the environment. Gillian did the same as manager for our ‘mother project’ Ark in the Park,  people and learned lots about plants from Waitakere Rivercare volunteers Mark, Colleen and Derek. Jarden took care of the Kauri Dieback station – making sure everyone had clean shoes before heading out.

And Stefan and Jacqui took photos of all the fun! Everyone mentioned before did a great job looking after all of our visitors and spreading the load. We even managed to sell t-shirts and sharks in the heat…

Great work everyone and thank you for coming and celebrating our unique wetland environment with us.
